Giving birth is a monumental event for parents and having it go smoothly is everyone's goal. Picking the right hospital to have your baby is a huge decision and a new report shows there are some good options in the northwest metro. Based on patient feedback, the Women's Choice Award lists North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale and Maple Grove Hospital as two of the top 431 hospitals in the U.S. to give birth. "We're quite committed to dad's experience, mom's experience, baby's experience," said North Memorial's Dr. Jennifer Tessmer-Tuck. "The award recognizes our high level of provider and patient communication, our commitment to patient safety and consumer satisfaction with the obstetrics process." Valerie Cork of New Hope gave birth to a baby girl at North Memorial on Wednesday. She says doctors did a good job keeping her calm and at ease. "They were good with keeping the nerves down, talking me through everything," Cork said. "Laughing, joking and giggling and making jokes so that way I was okay." Of course, positive baby talk is exactly the kind of publicity North Memorial covets. "We would love to be called the stork hospital," said Tessmer-Tuck. There are a total of 17 Minnesota hospitals on the list. According to 2014 birth data, Maple Grove Hospital delivered more than 3,900 babies, second most in Minnesota. Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis delivered the most. Eric Nelson http://twelve.tv http://www.facebook.com/12localnews http://twitter.com/12sports http://twitter.com/12localnews
